Aerodynamic bonnet vents for superior engine cooling on the GR Yaris. Reduces under-hood pressure at high speeds.
.Grinder, or other aluminum panel cutter
.Electric drill with a 6 or 7mm drill bit
.File or sand paper (finishing burrs after cut)
.2.5mm hex key (fastening bolts)
.#12 socket (removing bonnet hood)
.Utility knife (cutting paper template)
.Scissors
.Marker or paper tape (the opposite color of your car)
.Cushions or pads (preventing scratches on the bonnet)
.Tape or glue stick (temporarily pasting paper template)
.Tesa 51036 cloth tape or equivalent (aesthetic finish of the underside of bonnet)
.RTV (sealing edge trims)
.Loctite 243 thread locker or equivalent
It's much easier to cut the upper and lower panels, and flush the swarf and chips with the bonnet hood layed on the ground.
Follow the steps on the paper template to cut holes on the upper panel of the bonnet.
Use the dashed lines (the edges of bends of aluminum panels) as references.
Pull part of the release paper to the sides, so when you adjust the position on the bonnet hood, the vent won't stick.
Make sure the bolt holes on the bonnet hood align the brass insert nuts by temporarily inserting bolts.
Cut the aluminum mesh using the paper template.
The deepness of the brass insert nuts could be shallower because the melted plastic was squeed out.
When installing the mesh and the vent, gently test the deepness of the threads. Choose M4x8 bolts and use 1 or 2 washers to further shorten the bolt if necessary.
Fasten the bolts GENTLY as the heat-set insert nuts here are relatively fragile.
Secure the bolts with low torque using Loctite 243 thread locker (or equivalent)
Install the silicone trims to the edge of the lower panel. Squeeze RTV into the trims.
Cover the lower side of the upper panel using black cloth tape (Tesa 51036 or equivalent).
Install the rain guides using M3 x 12 bolts and washers.
Bend and insert the rain cover into the slots of the vent.
To remove the rain cover, push it from the underside by inserting a stick through the aluminum mesh.
